Ex-Gov. Lowe, of Maryland, In Richmond.

Ex-Gov. Enoch Louis Lowe reached Richmond on July 6, and signalized his arrival by promulgating the following intelligence:

“He states that on entering the stage at Winchester, on Thursday evening, reliable intelligence was received from Martinsburgh to the effect that Gen. Johnston had engaged the forces of the United States estimated at 20,000 at a place called Darkville, three miles this side of Martinsburgh— That Gen. Johnson had repulsed them three times, with great loss of their side, although their number largely exceeded his. Gen. Patterson is supposed to have been in command of the National troops. Gen. Johnston succeeded in driving them back to Martinsburgh— out flanking them, and getting between them and the river, intercepted their retreat.

An order had been received at Martinsburgh, from Gen. Johnston, to remove the women and children.

It was not known by our informant what was the extent of loss on either side. The same authority states the National loss at Hainesville at 67 killed, 85 wounded, and 53 prisoners”
