Three Colonels
of the 26th NC Regiment
The cabinet photo above, belonging to the American Civil War Museum seems to be a representation of an 1887 painting by William George Randall, belonging to the North Carolina Museum of History.
It looks like the three figures are modelled on separate photographs which appear in George C. Underwood's History of the Twenty-sixth Regiment of the North Carolina Troops in the Great War 1861-'65 from vol. 2 of Walter Clark's Histories of the Several Regiments ... of North Carolina in the Great war 1861-'65 ... Pubished by the State of North Carolina in 1901.
From a photograph taken July 4, 1864, on his 29th birthday.
From a picture taken in 1862,
at the age of twenty,
when promoted to the colonelcy of the regiment.
First Colonel 26th Regiment. Elected Governor, August, 1862.
