At the corner of Delaware avenue and B street north, near where Captain Barry's artillery and Major Haskin's company were stationed, might have been seen the tall form of General Scott, during the ceremonies at the Capitol. He was surrounded by several of his gallant officers, including Major General Wool. An officer was kept busy in riding to the grounds, and in giving information as to how the ceremonies were progressing. On one occasion, when the officer reported that all was quiet, the old veteran was heard to say, “Thank God for it.”
