The Washington Bee, November 3, 1894

Rev. Father Sandy Alexander, as he is familiarly called by nearly every minister in the city, was struck by a cable car while returning from the council held at Mt. Carmel Church last Monday afternoon and severely injured. Father Alexander is the popular minister of the First Baptist Church of West Washington. He was for many years pastor of the Second Baptist Church, now presided over by Rev. W. Bishop Johnson. Rev. Alexander is the only colored man who ever held that sacred position of trust, chaplain of the United States Senate. He is now 71 years old and has labored faithfully in the vineyard of his God.
