The Daughters of the American Revolution at Frederick, Md., distinquished the Fourth of July this year by erecting a marble memorial tablet over the grave of Thomas Johnson the first governor of Maryland. The tablet was a gift to the D. A. R. by Mrs. Ann G. Ross, of that city. The Governor was one of Gen. Washington's closest and most steadfast friends. A numerous family of descendants inherit the governor's excellencies of character, among them the Johnsons whose country-seat is on the National Pike, about 4 miles west of Frostburg.
