Samuel J. Kirkwood

Architect of the Capitol.

With her husband's permission Vinnie Ream came out or her sculptural retirement to create this statue of Senator Samuel J. Kirkwood which was donated to the National Statuary Hall of the U.S. Capitol in 1913.

In addition to being a senator from Iowa, Kirkwood had been the Governor of Iowa during the Civil War and Secretary of the Interior.
