Fire. — Last night about 11 o'clock, a fire broke out in Mr. J. H. Shreeve's Livery Stable, on 7th between H and I streets. It was discovered in time to release all the horses and convey them away in safety, and to draw out all the carriages. But the hay stored there was all consumed. The building was totally destroyed; what the fire spared was sacrificed to the good of the surrounding houses by pulling down.
The engines were on the ground in an incredible short time, and did all that was possible to be done. But the distance and scarcity of water impeded their efforts very much. The Hook and Ladder Company, as well as all the rest, was very efficient.
